Thank you from Dane County Credit Union CEO Jon Lowrey

Happy New Year!

I hope your Holidays were full of peace, fun, family, and friends.

At this time of year I like to extend my gratitude to everyone who does wonderful things for our credit union, this includes members, staff, and volunteers. Everything this credit union stands for starts with our members; we exist for the opportunity to serve our members, and you deserve our biggest thanks. Our staff also deserves thanks for providing first class service, working to improve our members’ finances and volunteering out in our community.

Financial cooperatives are unique

Yet, what truly makes us a credit union is the cooperative nature of what we do. The key ingredient for any cooperative is a stellar volunteer Board of Directors. Dane County Credit Union started 83 years ago to provide cooperative financial services for those who worked for Dane County. Fifteen volunteers originally gathered to start this credit union. In those days, the major services we provided were savings accounts and loans. There were no checking accounts, no debit or credit cards, no ebanking, not even teller lines or drive throughs. Certainly things have changed.

The DCCU directors

The one thing that hasn’t changed is the dedication, talent, and civil mindedness of our volunteers. Our current board of directors includes those from many different walks of life: business, accountants, IT, police officers, civil servants, insurance, investments, and students to name a few. We have had a remarkable group throughout our history serving on the board, and that holds true to today. I truly cannot thank them enough because of each of them, past and present, we continue to be a strong and healthy credit union.

Volunteering is individual

There are many reasons that drive individuals to volunteer. Our staff volunteers tout the good feeling of giving back to their community and making a difference in the lives of people around them, also the opportunity to develop new skills and knowledge. I want to thank our many staff who go the extra mile to volunteer, whether it’s during the work day or on their own time.

DCCU out and about

At organizations like The River Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels and Centro Hispano (among many others) our staff regularly goes out to make life easier and better for our neighbors and community. We will be putting together a Community Impact Report soon so our members can be proud of how their credit union serves the entire community.

Get involved

Have you ever considered getting more involved with your credit union? We are always looking for Associate Directors or committee members. These positions give you: exposure to serving as a volunteer for your credit union; the opportunity to provide feedback and insight to the Board of Directors; and, experience on how the credit union operates. If you are interested, please contact me at (608) 287-1802 for a friendly conversation to discuss further.

Thank you for your membership and for contacting us with your financial needs. We are here for you! Have a very successful 2018.
