Saying goodbye to someone special is never easy. Our long-time friend, Paul Horstmeier passed away recently. He generously served the Dane County Credit Union for over a quarter century and will be sorely missed.
Paul served on the DCCU board of directors from 1978-2002, a number of those years as the Chairman. Prior to that he was a member of the credit committee beginning in 1975. The credit union grew significantly during his tenure – not only in assets and number of members, but he was a major player in opening our first location (Struck Street) away from the main branch on Rimrock Road.
Paul was a wonderful human being that lived the credit union spirit in every way. He cared about others and was very supportive. He played the role of Santa for many, many years, long after his tenure on the board of directors. He always took time to chat with staff when he visited the branches and made a point to recognize them by saying “You do good!”
We have many fond memories of Paul and are thankful to his family for sharing him with us for so long. His leadership, dedication, and spirit will be missed, but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, Paul.
