Invited by the Department of Corrections, credit union staff share their financial expertise with formerly incarcerated people. During these sessions, staff offers support, information, resources and skills to individuals, and answers financial questions.
DCCU staff participates in bi-monthly “Welcome Home” sessions. The staff works with individuals to answer more personalized financial questions that are pertinent to their life. The range of topics include budgeting, credit scores and reports, transportation, and how to forge a clear path to financial well-being.
“Thank you for representing DCCU and showing up to share opportunities,” says Joelle Kotecki, case manager for the re-entry program. “We are very excited about the possibility of offering some financial education through collaboration between our agencies.”
The financial information provided becomes fully interactive for the participants. The goal is to teach the basics so they can make good life decisions and reach their goals. Financial skills arm attendees for everyday life so they can reach their goals.
